I photographed the beautiful Matilija poppies in Santa Barbara, California. As part of my ColorFill series, I explore how paint and color fill flowers, dripping from petal to petal, even a flower that seems void of color. These large poppies have ruffled, textured petals that were perfect for watercolor. I wanted to add a vibrant background to contrast with the white flowers and opted for these shades of blue, violet, and deep purples. These gorgeous shades are reflected in the flowers, giving an almost holographic feel to the piece.
